The problem is somehow triggerd by the installed languages.
I had English, German, French, Italian, Portuguise and Esperanto
installed on the machine that was affected by the bug.
Now I just removed all languages but English and German, and now the
user-accounts starts up as it should.

Hi I experience the same problem on one of my 64bit oneirc systems.
I just upgraded two machines from natty to oneirc, and one of them is affected
by the bug, the other not.
Very strange.
Anyway I followed the instructions mentioned in post #2 and attached the
resulting file.

The same happens to me. If I go through System settings and click the
User Accounts then the only response is that the settings window closes.
First time I came across to this behaviour was after installing fresh
Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 64-bit direct on a partition of PC which I use for
