the workaround is to downgrade network-manager package to 0.9.0-0ubuntu1
here is for 32 bit

Same problem here but with Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 32 bit live cd
It was working before beta 1 but after updating the live cd to beta 1
it's stop working , I tried other 3G modem but it is not working also .
