I can't reproduce the issue on a G4 with kernel 2.6.24.
Well, I'm closing this report due to the last comments regarding this
bug can't be reproduced. Please reopen it if someone can give us more

i would try but mine's a G3 (snow white) iMac and this prob seems to
be G4 isolated so i cant help

Will try that next time. However, now I'm not sure if it's kernel
specific, this is what happened next:
- After the kernel panic, I booted into OS X, where I could change the symbolic
links in /boot on my Ubuntu partition. I changed vmlinux and initrd.img to
point at 2.6.20-5, and rebooted.
