I managed to fix (via workaround) for this problem by installing gutsy and then
installing "Envy".
Envy is not core ubuntu software it is written by some italian guy but
the code needs to be included Ubuntu as it solves a lot of monitor
configuration problems.

I suspect I had a segfault too in Bug #91064 but just didn't mention it. We are
still waiting for a feedback from Akuma on this issue though (see

Yes, my problem was like the bug #91064.

So the driver disables it by default (when we have Composite).
# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep GLX

Pedro:
After backing up your /etc/xorg.conf file can you use restricted-manager to
enable the NVIDIA driver as described on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia ? You may also wish
to look at Bug #91064 ...

Hi Sitsofe,
I was using nvidia-glx-legacy because when I changed to nvidia-glx, the
kernel nvidia module mismatched the X api. X API was using the nvidia-glx
api and the kernel the nvidia-glx-legacy api. So, the gdm couldn't start.
I solved this problem doing something dirty: I copyed the nvidia
Rodrigo:
Since you have a Geforce 4 card you shouldn't actually be using the legacy
drivers - nvidia-glx is a far better fit for you. If you decided to try legacy
because you are having trouble with nvidia-glx I would suggest filing another
bug or looking at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bin
I've solved this problem on my computer doing this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "nVidia Corporation NV18M [GeForce4 448 Go]"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "AddARGBVisuals""True"
Option "Add
I have got the same problem
the output is:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18M [GeForce4 448 Go]
