In my case gnome-power-manager crashed shortly after switching to
battery power. Perhaps some common code for state changes is the
problem? I don't think it ever gave the "Running on battery power"
notification so that could be a place to look.

Suffered crash with the same code. Running an updated Feisty on a
Toshiba Tecra A5 laptop. Was running on battery power and had closed
the laptop lid, which is set to trigger Suspend. Suspend did not occur,
crash reported on reopening the lid.
