I do no longer have an 11.10 installation to test this on.

current installed and unity 2D and it worked flawlessly

In order to boot to different kernels I have to uninstall nvidia-current.
With doing this, i get thrown into unity-2d, in which suspend works as expected.
I can't get unity 3D to run properly, also not on older kernels without the
nvidia-current driver.

I'll concur that on my machine the screen lock has not yet even actually
locked the screen when resume completes. If you still have a kernel
from Natty on the machine could you boot with that and see if the
suspend is any different. If so could we get a dmesg from that added
here. Either way let
