I'm having a similar problem with oneiric. The console comes up with white
background and dos-like block characters.
No latin characters at all.
setupcon doesn't help.

- Yes, font is corrupted after switching away from console.
- I have Oneiric only.
- Yes, but temporarily. Also, non-latin letters still remain brighter than
latin.

Is it necessary to do step #2 to reproduce this issue ?
Did it only happen with oneiric ?
Does running: sudo setupcon, fix your problem ?
