* debian/patches:
- 0002-Fix-merging-parent-menu-file-bug-7169.patch: fixes merging of menu
files containing type="parent" (e.g. when edited by alacarte).
Installed a fresh installation of Natty (Xubuntu 11.04), clicked on
Alacarte and had the menus disappear from the Xfce session. Installed
the package garcon from -proposed, restarted and the menus are back.
Thanks for fixing this bug.

Hello Wookey, or anyone else affected,
Accepted garcon into natty-proposed, the package will build now and be
available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Just removing $HOME/.config/menus/xfce-applications.menu didn't fix it for me.
I had two menus, one in each panel. What worked was:
* Remove all menus
* Edit the file to remove ' type="parent"'
* Re-add the menus
This is on Natty...

I got the same error when I clicked panel properties → edit menu. I've
found a temporary solution - removing / deleting xfce-applications.menu
file from /home/user/.config/menus enables to open menu without problem.
I have Ubuntu Natty :
dpkg -l | grep xubuntu-desktop
Thanks for your bug report.
This should be already fixed in oneiric, but will need a SRU for natty
(here's the patch:

In the meantime, you can remove type="parent", and your menu should work
