Removing the following packages got rid of those debug messages:
ibus-qt4 libibus-qt1 plasma-widget-kimpanel-backend-ibus plasma-widget-
kimpanel-backend
But that's just a workaround -- the real fix is to either install the
complete ibus, with a *running* daemon, as a dependency of plasma-
widget
