Hi Jeremy,
Sorry I never tested this. I'm only on 8.04 (XUbuntu). I suppose there's
no way to test this without upgrading all the way to 10? The laptop runs
great with 8.04. I used to have 9.10 and it was much slower.
Mind you, it's 12 years old.
Thanks.

Aeb1barfo,
Please test this against the latest build of Lucid. Should you still see
this behavior, please test the latest mainline kernel so that we can verify
that the behavior exists in both places and start the investigation into this
problem on current software appropriately.
Thanks!
Some sort of device recognition error still exists in downloads of 2010

2 weeks ago, I put Intrepid on my Armada (up from gutsy which had jerky
sound however it worked fine in the sample movie w/ Nelson Mandela?!)
Same results. Jerky sound at best or system freezes when I attempt to
play a cd or mp3.

Intrepid is not stable enough on the Armada to check out the ESS
install. That was the subject of a different bug...
I was able to install a minimum 8.04 system using ubuntu server; I can
apt-get the rest; the Kubuntu live disk just blanks the screen in both

Install still does not recognize ESS sound chip.
Sound still has to be manually installed in etc/modules. I got the fix
from other posts.

Oh yes, the built in sound ( ESS chip based system ) doesn't work at all. On
boot, the system generates clicks like it is initializing the system, but the
Linux kernel doesn't see it and starting any ALSA system doesn't see it
either.( loudspeaker with an red X icon ).
