I tested today and it mysteriously started to show all the directories.
Maybe patches in libs fixed that.

Is this only on edgy? It probably has to do with the .hidden file used
to hide directories other than /media and /home. All the other
directories should be hidden, but you should still be able to access
them (that is the case for me). Is "Show Hidden Files" on?
Is the problem in the open dialog
Same experience here.
Even after typing in /opt/ the click on OK does nothing.
BTW, while typing in the drop-down hint for directories is working.
Maybe an incorrect usage of standard KDE folder open dialog?
