Oh, okay. I already did that but didn't subscribe you (don't know how to
do but I will find out). I will do it again.
Thank you.

Hi,
My vlc gives "Segmentation Fault" when run through terminal to access a
"flv" video or will not open "vlc" when double clicked on the flv video
in filesystem or when dragged and dropped into an opened vlc, the vlc
window disappears.
Should I report this here or somewhere else?
Kindly please
I am sorry, there is no edit button, so I am posting a new comment.
The log I got on terminal:

Dhruv Matani, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

On my machines it is still a problem in Miro.

Machine(!) crashes when playing the Google Tech Talks rather randomly.

sometime continuing but stops later.

I'm experiencing this on Arch Linux (so yeah, everything's up-to-date -
xorg-server 1.11.2, VLC 1.1.12). It only started happening in the last
few weeks, though, but I didn't notice it soon enough for any updates to
stand out in the logs. Error message is the same (searching it got me
here).

I know "Fix committed" isn't the right status here, but I couldn't find
one that said "Fix discussed and found to be a valid one".

The bug is fixed if I change the video output method. Maybe VLC should
just set that as the default, or maybe detect on the fly rather than
just crash.

Hey dhruvbird,
You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

Prashant, you are right - it also happens even if you just move the

X crashes when I play flv files in totem too. Specifically, the crash
occurs when I move the mouse while flv file is playing. Seems to work if
I do not touch the mouse.

X server crashed and hung up VLC's X connection. Not a VLC bug.
You can work around this by selecting a different video output method in
the VLC preferences.

Also Banshee crashes when playing the FLV file (it actually plays it,
but as soon as I minimize the player or try to bring another application
to focus, it crashes X!!). mp3 files are played properly though both by
