I verified that usb_ncm is available in the 2.6.38 kernel for Lucid:

I also see that /usr/lib/ModemManager/libmm-plugin-mbm.so, which the
udev rule trigger, is present:

Yes it should, as long as the kernel has the usb_ncm module.

Marius, does applying just that udev change make the modem work in
Lucid? No point in getting this backported if there are other commits in
MM 0.5 required to make this work properly.
