The latest Ubuntu update package to which you refer is alsa-utils, which
doesn't actually affect the driver (see the source package against which
this bug is filed, which is where this problem would lie).

I updated today my alsa from latest ubuntu update package. For now it
seems to work fine. Version 1.0.13-1ubuntu4

Sorry for being not precise, I'm doing my best.
There is no errors, it just become inaudible.
Concerning the driver, it's ALSA the newest ones. Kernel version
:2.6.20-5-generic
Card: HDA Intel
Please be precise in describing your symptoms. Do you mean that
plug:iec958 simply does not work (results in errors when using aplay
-Dplug:iec958 post-resume), or do you mean that sound appears to play
but remains inaudible? Which driver are you using?
