The duplicate status is wrong, as #7 says all is clickable except the
VPN menu (disappear like the screenshot in #1). Restart the network
manager daemon don't fix the problem, only restarting the nm-applet fi

This bug affects me on about half of bootups, and it is not a duplicate
of 779754. My nm-applet is perfectly clickable, it just does NOT show
the VPN menu sometimes.

Yup, that seems to be a bug in dbusmenu or directly in NM-applet that
causes it to lose part of the menu. I think you should also be able to
see another copy of the icon, and that one would work.
My guess is
I can also confirm this bug.
In my case, not only is the VPN menu empty, but the wireless "More Networks"
one as well.
Restarting nm-applet fixes both entries.

I can also confirm this bug since natty. Restarting nm-applet restores
VPN connections in the menu.
