I have the same problem.
I changed menu.lst to work around bug #64487 by turning off usplash
An upgrade promptly overwrote this and usplash was back.

Forgot to post this. A month ago, when the kernel was upgraded, the
menu.lst was once again changed deleting the reference to windows boot.
