I might have messed up my nsswitch.conf myself (it was a Dapper
upgrade). Cannot reproduce right now, if it works with default and
upgraded installs where no local modifications were made, I believe you

Please attach your /etc/nsswitch.conf. Feisty's libnss-mdns definitively
gets the upgrade right from Dapper and Edgy and also works correctly on
a clean Feisty install. However, of course it does not touch nsswitch if
it has been customized.

erm... nss_mdns definitely did not change nsswitch.conf on my machine.
So either I'm missing something obvious or there _is_ a bug somewhere.

Enabling avahi is pretty orthogonal to MDNS, thus enable_avahi should
not touch this.
nsswitch.conf is now configured automatically by installing libnss-mdns,
and Feisty installs that package by default.
