Oh, in order to run the test you need to run:
$ PYTHONPATH=. python softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/widgets/thumbnail.py
and click really quickly on the button on top.

I can reproduce this with:
lp:~mvo/software-center/lp785162
when i use the "sudo sh contrib/simulate-slow-network.sh" before and then click
really quickly on the "focus test button".
This then causes that e.g. totem does no longer has a screenshot.
