This is an old report, and the crash has likely been fixed by then, so
I'm setting it to Incomplete, because I can't reproduce it anymore, and
never received any more feedback, either.

This is harmless (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/syslog-
ng/+bug/759590), and unrelated. As for restart: that probably won't
crash it. My suspicion is reload, under certain conditions. I'll play
with that tonight.

I just tried reloading and restarting syslog-ng. It did not crash.
However, I noticed this in dmesg:
[ 12.784790] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.15
[ 12.784829] NET: Registered protocol family 31
[ 12.784831] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
[ 12.784833] Bluetooth: HCI socke
Yeah, it's not feasible to run syslog-ng under strace all the time.
But if it takes days to crash... perhaps it happens when reloading
syslog-ng? That gave me an idea, thank you.

I am not sure what triggers this crash. It does not happen every time
syslog-ng would log a message, because it works most of the time. It
just happens to crash every now and then. It is hard to catch the crash,
because there is nothing in the logs -- obviously. So I have to catch it
in dmesg or si
I couldn't reproduce this on a freshly installed Ubuntu 11.04 (x86).
I'll try upgrading and x86-64 aswell..
Is there anything particular that triggers the crash, does it happen
randomly, or every time syslog-ng would receive a message?

Hi!
I've asked upstream about this issue. We both think it may not be related to
syslog-ng itself.
We ask more information to hunt it down. Please give us your architecture (x86
/ x64 or any other). Also, did you change your config file? If yes, can you
attach it?
Regards,
Laszlo/GCS
