Hello,
I've upgraded my installation to the latest Ubuntu alpha 5.
The bug is fixed for me. The resume processes now finishes, and the sound
output works just fine! Finally, I'll be able to use suspend/resume in my
portable computer! Thanks!

Hi Jose,
I believe some suspend/resume issues will be resolved with the next
2.6.27-3 kernel. Can you check which specific version you are using
with 'cat /proc/version_signature' ? Thanks.

Hello,
I tried the 2.6.27 kernels available at:

Are there any other 2.6.27 kernel packages available for testing ? Where ?

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the

There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

I've compiled the latest available ALSA snapshot (1.0.17rc2) and the bug
seems fixed (the audio on my Vostro 1400 works correctly after a suspend
without using any workaround).
Any chance of a backport of ALSA to Hardy when 1.0.17 final will be
released?

Hi Bastian,
Care test the latest 2.6.24-11 kernel (if you currently are not) and
then attach your dmesg output after you resume? Also care to attach the

Hey Elyk, I was wondering if you could do a dump of the driver for the
9205 sigmatel codec to a text file? The reason I ask is because there
currently aren't any kext for it to install in Mac osx leopard.. Are you
capable of doing this or know someone who is? Thanks! :)

As a workaround, try the following after resume:
sudo fuser /dev/snd/pcm*
will list you what processes use the sound hardware.
sudo fuser -k /dev/snd/pcm*
will kill them, after which I can restart whatever I want to play sound and
have sound again.sudo fuser /dev/snd/pcm*

I am still experiencing this problem with all updates installed,
although I have been needing to recompile alsa-source (using module-
assistant) after each kernel update to fix my sound (Intel HDA Sigmatel
STAC 9205 codec), so its continual failure may be related to a different
bug.

As of update 09/24/07 the sound after standby seems to be resolved on my
M1330 also. Issue was noted previous weeks but I never tested it until
today. Hibernate still seems broken but my machine can last 3 days on
standby so I rarely hibernate anyway

I also confirm alsa-driver-1.0.15rc1 to work after resume, however,
sometime after that, it got broken again (or rather, it outright crashes
my machine during resume).

I'm updated my alsa to 2007-09-11 yesterday and I'm seeing a different
issue: when the sound card is unused "during"I suspend, it will work
afterwards.
If it's being used "during" suspend, my Latitude D830 hangs after
resume. This did not happen with 2007-08-18.
See https://bugtrack.alsa-project.
With Gutsy Tribe-5 64-bit with all updates to 2007-09-10 this now works
here, although I can't explain why! Doubtless one of the countless
recent updates is to thank.
Can others please check and report?

I'm seeing this bug as well, however, sometimes when I resume I won't
get sound like reported here, then pause media player (no use in it
playing stuff I can't hear) but after a while I accidentally restarted
it (forgetting it shouldn't work) and got sound again?

Thanks TJ. I hate it that there is no sound after boot. Will this be
