Ok, I just checked, in 8.10 there IS a package linux-image-386, while in
9.10 there is not. Are you sure the -generic image is not 686-only?

I don't think it was valid for Intrepid because Ubuntu 8.10 never had a i686
kernel image.
This issue is gone because the packaging has changed. There is only one image
for the i386 architecture, i686 image is not needed anymore because the i386
image is optimized for all 32-bit CPUs, even i686.
My duplicate of this bug was valid for 8.10 which should be still
supported, as 10.04 has not been released yet.
Sorry, but since it seems nobody cared about this bug (or committed) a
fix, I am currently not willing to re-validate this bug. A full test run

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. The version of Ubuntu that you were using has reached its End Of Life.
Please test the latest Ubuntu version (9.10 or 10.04) and report a new bug if
necessary.

Pauli (or anyone else with *specifically* an AMD K6 affected by this
problem), could you please attach your /proc/cpuinfo to this bug? I
don't have an AMD K6 sample, and would like to have a /proc/cpuinfo to
include in our test suite to ensure that I fix this properly. Thanks in

Uwe, yours is a different problem, the other way round, so to speak (on
your system, the installer can't find any kernel, whereas this bug is
about the installer finding a kernel when it shouldn't have done). I'll
address your problem in the bug you filed.

Hey,
i second that problem with the feisty server edition (only tested this one).
with the gutsy tribe-5 disc, the installer is giving me a "no suitable kernel
found". My CPU is a Via C3.
this one could also address your problem:

Hi,
this problem also exists in Feisty Server edition.
Desktop edition could not be tested, because the screen went black after the
boot splash.
