Details:
Ubuntu 11.04 i386
nVidia graphics card (crash occurs with both nvidia and nouveau drivers)
Ubuntu Classic session
I use following sequence to reproduce:
Open Firefox, guake, deadbeef, Code::Blocks, gnome-terminal.
Build a big project in codeblocks.
Switch to terminal and run g
I turned off the same effects than #5 but it still kept crashing. I'm
using Ubutu Classic with no effects for 2 days and it haven't crashed
since then

Crashes for me too, on both my Sony Vaio laptop (with an ATI card) and
ad my home computer (with nvidia card). Both using the ATI/nvidia
drivers, and both running Xubuntu with no special effects or
compositioning enabled.

I just deactivate some compiz effects and the problem appears to
disapear.
compiz efects disables:
-Enchanced Zoom Desktop
-Animations
-Grid
-Snapping Windows
