Found the root of the problem: xdg-open calls gvfs-open. In Terminal, I
typed in 'gvfs-open trash:///'. Again, EOG got started.
Digging further, I found clues on internet about associations for gfvs,
especially file $HOME/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list which had
following lines in it:
Its an issue from your side. Unity calls the command >> xdg-open
trash:/// << Seems like its an xdg configuration issue on your user
account.
