The bug also affects Ubuntu 12.10.
Hibernate (suspend to disk) seems to work. The "double power off" effect is
also present. However, I suppose that is no problem because the RAM content is
saved on disk and not lost on the power-off during resume.

Sure thing. It's still an issue as of Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, and the
problem is identical to what I outlined before. I don't currently have
access to the laptop, but I'll check it out tomorrow evening and share
the results then.

Yes, this problem affects me too and is quite urgent. I have noticed
that with Ubuntu 8.10 resume will work, so it is a problem introduced at
Ubuntu 9,04

I can confirm the above problem. I would add that sometimes it does
resume, but sometimes it won't, it completely unpredictable and hence
cannot be used really.
