Armandoj-93, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide the information following

Problem still exists here, and while the codecentral script does work
sometimes it causes my usb to stop working on resume :(.
Still no progress on this?

I managed to fix the problem using the script at

not-working-bug#header-6
Not sure exactly what was the cause of the problem though!

@dssj Thanks for keeping this post alive.
Adding to my 5/2011 post: 1) My U43F is dual-boot and the Windows
partition suspends just fine; it's a real suspend/sleep with little or
no drain on the batteries. 2)This machine has amazing battery life and
can normally go at least 5-6+ hours when I'm
I'm using an Asus N53S as well, currently with 3.0-14 on Ubuntu 11.10
and it has the same symptoms, both suspend and hibernate fail and the
screen goes black, the disk seems to turn off, the wireless seems to
turn off and can't switch to terminal (ctrl+alt+f1) and num lk doesn't
react anymore.

I'm also having the same issue on an Asus A53E-based computer running
Fedora 15 LXDE x86-64, even with the latest Fedora kernels (which are
3.0-based). I tried updating the BIOS, but that didn't help.
What's strange is that from the user level, everything seems to go fine.
You can check the pm-su
finisdiem - your wireless driver probably has a different name, try
looking at the status of your wireless adapter (click the wireless icon
in the panel and choose "connection information") and finding the name
of the driver - in my case "ath9k". You can then remove the module from
the kernel using

I've got similar issue on my Dell Inspiron 6400. And I've tracked it down to
intel wifi driver. I have iwl 5300 card installed - and as I can see at least
some people here have intel wifi too.
My system hangs during suspend, but if I do 'sudo rmmod iwlagn' it
suspends/resumes fine. But I also ha

I also have a new Asus U43F with a freshly installed Ubuntu 11.04 and I have
the same problem as Armandoj-93. When I try to suspend, either with the menu
or by closing the laptop, I get a blank screen, but the fans are still on and I
can't get the system to wake back up. As with those above,
I have got the same problem on a Dell Vostro 3750 with natty 11.04.
When i press "suspend" The system goes into a black screen without backlight
while the fan still turns. The only way to get out of this is to press the
power-button.

The last version of Ubuntu to include legacy GRUB was 9.04 "Jaunty".
Those directions don't work with GRUB 2 (i.e. you should NOT edit the
menu manually).
Not quite sure what to do with GRUB 2. Just started using the newer
Ubuntu's. Haven't upgraded since Jaunty and am still learning GRUB 2.
Mine
When you see GRUB, press "e" for edit boot options on Ubuntu. Then add
that line to the end of the options. If it works, great; but GRUB will
not remember preferences the next time you boot so, "sudo vi
/boot/grub/menu.lst" in a terminal and add it there.
