padevchooser is deprecated (for some time) according to upstream. Try
pavucontrol for this use case.

padevchooser does not work in Natty

I use(d) padevchooser to select which application should use the builtin
sound chip and which should use a separate sound card (having the
headset plugged). Since the upgrade to Natty padevchooser does not work
(it starts but nothing happens).
