Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gtkpod-aac
I have several mp4 video files, all of which should work on the video ipods, but gtkpod will only read some of them. For many of them, I get the dreaded: Could not open '<filename>' for reading, or file is not an mp4 file. The following track could not be processed (filetype is known but analysis failed): '<filename>' Some files do work, though. I can't predict which files will work, and which won't. For example, the "file" utility tells me all the files are "ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 1". They all play fine with totem, and when I right click on the files, go to properties, and check the Audio/Video tab, I find that some that work have a Video codec of "H.264 / AVC", while others that work have a codec of "MPEG-4 video", but the ones that don't work also have "MPEG-4 video." Other minor differences are the frame rate (some at 30 FPS don't work, some do), and whether the "Year" field is set. I have also tried compiling the latest gtkpod (0.99.8) from source, and still have no luck. I'd like to get these videos on the ipod, and I'm willing to transcode them as necessary, but I don't know why some files are working and others aren't. ** Affects: gtkpod-aac (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gtkpod-aac handles some mp4 files, but not others https://launchpad.net/bugs/76076 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
