ksynaptics contains an ALPS option.

You might try the "Configure Pad Borders" in ksynaptics. This solved a
lot of ptoblems for me. It is not entirely evident from the text in the
dialog that this afffects the cursor movement ...

I've been testing more and found out that is just when I try to configure via
ksynaptics. I tried to use gsynaptics and it worked.
