Okay thanks for following up. We've put some various fixes in for gpu
lockups recently so possibly one of those fixes resolved this.
Please file a new bug report if you see another gpu lockup like this.

Might be a dupe of bug 737110. Can you see if adding this to your
xorg.conf helps?

or
