I do not see that the problem has been solved - all I mentioned above
was, that I made a mistake, which has little to do with the problem.
Unless you mean it was really solved, but then it would be good to get
some information about the solution before closing the bug report.

I made a mistake above: swap potentially did not work because the swap
entry was wrong. Now I changed it in /etc/fstab to /dev/sda6 and it does
work.

Could you please provide the contents of fstab. Do you have any idea
what you did when the mount points changed?
Did you find the same problem in later releases like edgy and feisty?
