** Changed in: emacs21 (Ubuntu)
Is this problem still occurring, and have you found any workarounds?
Both crashes happened in calls to xlib (XGContextFromGC and
XSetClipMask) perhaps emacs21 wasn't checking a GC return value
(XGContextFromGC only takes a GC parameter), that it passed on to those
calls.

i had the same problem. I've just installed ubuntu yesterday. I've
been playing around with a bunch of things (fonts, telnet servers), so
I'm sure I did something stupid.
Report attached in the hopes that it will protect against other people
doing similarly stupid things.
