James, the problem is with the ppa not containing the latest unity from
trunk and there is no need for the bug report for it.

disable the unity daily ppa and do the following in a terminal
$ sudo apt-get update; $ sudo apt-get install nux-tools/natty
libnux-0.9-0/natty libnux-0.9-common/natty
after that unity will work for you.

I'm using unity from the unity daily ppa.
You're correct. Unity wasn't installed for some reason. I installed it, and
I've got the same problem still. It doesn't load. Here's what I get when I run
unity from the command line:
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin '/usr/lib/compiz/libuni
you do not have unity installed at the moment, maybe it got removed with
any update conflicts. could you again run 'sudo apt-get update' and then
'sudo apt-get install unity' also are you using the unity daily ppa?
