This is a 12.04 that was converted from an 11.10 back in November. It is
modified to be my daily working install.
I update it daily. The last update being very early morning on Monday
19th March. The first thing I did when the desktop loaded was to run
Update Manager. The message I know get from U
Release 12.04 precise 64-bit, Kernel Linux 3.2.0-18-generic installed
and happened during an update.

Oh, and the traceback suggests it is relevant that I have a package
which failed to install sitting in the list-to-install, so that
assertion is making invalid assumptions about the original state of the
config.
