Same here, never had an issue with Ubuntu 10.10, I could attach my
second monitor just fine whenever I wanted (booted or not, the screen
would just adjust itself to the amount of monitors present when I
plugged/unplugged it). Since 11.04 I can't have a nice image with two

Confirmed for 945GM Intel graphiccard on a Thinkpad X60. Never had an issue
with Ubuntu 10.10
Everything works fine as long as the 2nd Monitor has same or less resolution
than 1st monitor.

Ubuntu 10.10 will automatically disable compiz when I attached external
monitor.
Ubuntu 11.04 can only enable or disable compiz before login, it can't be
changed after login.

sorry, the first two attachments named "grep kernel /var/log/syslog" are
from my entire syslog, over many boots, and with a bunch of usb devices
attacked, including an unused displaylink device. attachment #5 is only
the current boot, with many of the usb devices (including the
