The version of Ubuntu that you were using has reached its End Of Life. It is
unlikely that this bug persists after 3 years and 6 Gnome releases.
Please test the latest Ubuntu version (9.10 or 10.04) and report a new bug if
necessary.

Maybe you could get a backtrace with a debug build of libexif or attach
a version of the crash report with coredump?
