I've run into what seems to be the same issue; I get the same messages
in the kernel and Xorg logs:

Hmm, ok well perhaps this freeze was some permutation on one of the
other reported gpu freezes, such as bug #702090. Since we don't have a
good dump in this case I'm going to close the bug report out.
With your update to latest, have you reported that bug? If not, please

Yep got a pop up, reported it ok, then tried working through a few
things and then X locked up completely after trying to access the menu
under the ubuntu symbol.
I've since updated to latest and currently have non functional X on
normal startup, have to go back to low resolution or command lin

session termination or freeze up?
Unfortunately apport didn't capture a valid GPU dump in this case, looks
like the GPU got reset before the reporting kicked in perhaps. But from
the logs it looks like compiz crashed (twice!), and
