Look inside the code of /usr/bin/gfceu and see if the lines
while gtk.events_pending():
gtk.main_iteration_do()
appears instead of the old code:
for x in range(1,20):
gtk.main_iteration_do()

(edgy version is 0.50).
Version 0.60 works on edgy without that lag.

I confirm this for Edgy. Very, very strange loading time. The GFCE gui
simply disappears (I tought it has crashed), but after 5+ minutes the
game windows appears in my front.
GFCE launches the following command:
/usr/games/fceu -sound 1 -fs 0 -opengl 0 "game_filename.nes"
Strangely, when I type
GFCE also disappears when I try to change the gamepad settings.
Suddenly, after several minutes, the settings window appears.
