This happened to me also. On an Aspire 5810 with ATI/Intel switchable
graphics. Error occured after reboot, I had just installed the ATI
proprietary drivers

When I've installed fglrx after reboot Unity start failed. fglxgears
fails with message "Segmentation faield. Core dumped".
