Oh, phcoder in #grub suggested to use 'noefi' which works. But then I
cannot use the efivars which is neccessary to set up GRUB2 properly.

I marked #635439 as a duplicate of this bug, because I don't think it is
a casper problem, but rather a Linux one. And it is not specific to the
Dell Precision M4500 or the Dell Latitude E6510 because I ran into it
with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420 as well.
I also tried the UEFI-enabled unofficial Arch
Sure the screen is black? My ASRock 880G Pro3 MOBO will boot to UEFI
for 11.04.2 beta2 on CD or USB but most of the time it goes nearly all
black screen with only 2 to 4 mm visible at top of the screen. It will
boot correctly after updating the software on the board maybe once in 20
times with CD

Can you please confirm that this behavior is due to UEFI, you can do
this by changing the boot option to boot your usb stick / or cd room in
non uefi mode in firmware. I would like to make sure that this is not a
i915 bug.
