Since the start up script works in Feisty Fawn and Gutsy Gibbon, I think
we can call this fixed. :)

I meant I still have to reorder /etc/eclipse/java_home, putting sun JRE
before GCJ, but don't have to edit the Eclipse startup script anymore.

Hmm, it _was_ necessary for me in Feisty.
My software versions:
# dpkg -l | egrep '(eclipse|gcj|subv|javahl)' | awk '{print $2"\t\t"$3}'
eclipse 3.2.2-0ubuntu3

eclipse-pde 3.2.2-0ubuntu3

Just an update: The above mentioned work around is not necessary in
Feisty Fawn.

yes this really seems to be the problem.
To only comment out the
-Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni
option is actually sufficient for eclipse to work with subclipse.
