Watching ~/.xsession-errors with tail, I can see I get 2 of these errors
every time a copy is performed from both firefox and chromium

My experiences with copy/paste in in a Ubuntu classic desktop session:
chromium->chromium=fine
chromium->firefox=not working
chromium->xchat=not working
chromium->terminator=paste available, empty contents except for line feeds
firefox->firefox=fine
firefox->terminator=paste available, empty conte
