This problem has been solved in kernel 2.6.20. I opened a bug in the
kernel bugzilla and they solved it (it took almost a year). Previous
kernel leave the HP nx74XX laptop series in a "bad state" which locked
ACPI functions (even suspend and resume now works).

I'm not sure what you mean by "not updated after boot" Does it think it's on
AC when it's not? Vice versa?
Can you confirm that this is still present in the latest kernel version in
Hardy?

Sorry, I'm using Ubuntu Edgy. It's a clean installation (not upgrade)
but the problem seems to affect even Dapper since I've used it before.
