Please try 0.6.1 version of this package which I backported to work on Ubuntu
10.04 and up, Google Earth 6.0 is supported, along with all dependencies listed
for it to be installed:

Thanks, I have just downloaded and installed it on my 10.04 system from
this location (for anyone else who wants the fixed package):

I notice that I no longer have to use the "--force" option on my 64-bit
system.
