Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I'm using Kubuntu Edgy. This problem persists with kernel 2.6.17-12
with Upstart 02.7-7 or sysvinit 2.86. With no splash, I will get a
restart message similar to the one posted above and the system hangs.
With the splash my system hangs after the status bar is cleared.

i have taken a different approach, just to say that now my restart works.
the change is quite drastic though. i upgraded to feisty, and then
installed the 2.6.19-5-generic kernel, which restarts fine.
so this is a temporary workaround, although those seeking stability will
probably opt to stay wi
Same here.. I have HP Pavilion a420.me and I have the same problem.
Everything works just fine, except for the restarting process.
I've checked if the LiveCD is different than the installed Ubuntu.. but
it has the same problem. I check the CD in a different PC which has
Mercury motherboard in it.
I am also affected by this bug, and I can confirm that the output when
restarting in the recovery console is very similar (if not the same) to the one
erik1397 posted.
At the moment I haven't noticed any problem at shutdown, only restarting my
computer.
I am using generic kernel, if that is imp
Well i've never tried disabling usplash for my default kernel, but when in
the recovery mode kernel, i also have this problem (and there's no usplash
on the recovery mode kernel).

Well the only changes I have made to my xorg.conf file is that i've changed
my driver from mesa to the fglrx driver, and it works peerfectly. also,
i've added more screen resolutions to that file, and at the end of it, i
added another section which says:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "0
Sorry, I hadn't understand exactly your problem. Do you have ever try
with disabling usplash ? If it does any changes, it could be an upstart
problem anyway.

Okay I tried pressing Alt+SysRq+1 and Alt+SysRq+t at the time of the hang,
but I noticed that my keyboard turns off at this time, so I cannot press any
keys, as no power is coming into the keyboard.
i will reply to you with the output of the 'reboot' command from recovery
mode.

Hi. Could you follow the instructions at

When the crash occurs, press Alt+SysRq+1 followed by Alt+SysRq+t. If
