I have just updated to Natty and also have an empty desktop. I can log
in to the "classic" (Gnome 2) desktop, so my computer is usable, but
would like to try Unity out.

I'm getting the same issue.
1st attempt:
* Installed Natty (all is good).
* Installed updates (desktop empty, no unity, no classic gnome).
* Installed video drivers for ati radeon 4xxx series from the repositories
since official ati drivers don't work (still nothing).
2nd attempt:
* Installed Na
That's weird, thanks for putting it invalid. Do not hesitate to reopen
it again if you reproduce it later on the cycle :)

Well, this is very frustrating. I did two more encrypted whole drive
with LVM installations using the same hardware, and can not reproduce
this issue. I also installed whole drive, no encryption with good
results. Is it possible I simply caught the updates in the middle of
changing? Anyway, marking
