Robert, you are talking about problems which are not the bug reported
here. Please report separate bugs for them, one for the stopping print
jobs, another for the squares in the job viewer. Thanks.

Printing 100 copies in one batch…
Printer stops without any reason, even while printing a page. Stop/start
printer resumes a new page, first ejecting the half printed page and sometimes
a blank one, then printing some pages (about 15). Task stays in the status
windows, even after having printed

Upstream bug of job applet: Either the applet does not catch certain
D-Bus signals of CUPS or it simply needs to refresh the job list more
