I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 and am seeing the same problem. The system is
up to date, so it should have the header and restricted modules update
mentioned above, but still I'm seeing the same problem.

For my soundcard, there is no difference between the frequences.
Would need mic for teamspeak too...

One thing I've noticed is that the whine is only present when recording
at certain sample rates. For instance, recording in Audacity at the
default 44100Hz gives me the horrible whine. Recording at 48000Hz
causes the whine to completely disappear. It also doesn't seem to be
