using option "-K" solved the problem for me (vmware-view -K)

A further note: This problem doesn't seem to appear when running the
ubuntu desktop live image and installing the viewer in that environment.
So, maybe something that's only an issue on upgrade? Is there some way
to troubleshoot something related to the upgrade that would be causing
the problem?
