Hmm, I seem to be a little slow today. Maverick live cd gives me the
muted sound also. Unmuting does make the sound work. Unfortunately, that
is of little help to the blind user trying to run this. Using the
keyboard to hit the volume control without seeing it is hit and miss. To

Sorry for not stating it above. This is the report right after booting
the live cd. Yes, I am referring to playback only. Without any audio, an
installation using a screen-reader becomes impossible. I do not need to
speak to the computer, only to listen for what I need to do. I have made
no changes
1. Is this symptom reproducible in 10.10?
2. Was this bug report filed before or after you adjusted the mixer settings?
Ideally I need volume state both before and after.
3. Are you referring only to playback? (Capture needs a separate bug report.)
