I suspect I have a similar problem.
Just purchased an Acer AspireRevo R3700. Tried installing ubuntu 10.04 /
10.10, xubuntu 10.10, linux mint 10 lxde using a USB. The problem exists
even if I just run linux directly from the USB.
The computer freezes during reboot and power down. It gives the mes
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60
days.]

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it

Solution (I test it on MSI Wind U135):
Add to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
those strings:
blacklist rt2800lib
blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800sta
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00sta
and reboot.
After that, Wi-Fi and rebooting are working great!
